Want to know more? Please use the
FAQ's below...
How does a PayPal payment work for the shopper?
The PayPal logo appears on the Payment Method Selection
Page. When the shopper clicks on the PayPal logo they
are re-directed to PayPal where they are shown the standard
PayPal account login page and the PayPal payment proceeds
as normal

Does the merchant need to change their integration to
accept PayPal?
No.

What does a new merchant need to do to sign up for PayPal?
PayPal requires application information very similar
to the information required by us but with a few additions.
New merchants go through the normal web application
process first and will tick a box in the WebApp to choose
PayPal as an additional payment method. Once they have
completed their application and have an MAI login, the
additional application questions for PayPal are displayed
in the MAI. The merchant provides the additional information
and we send this and other application data to PayPal.
PayPal creates a merchant specific contract and sends
us the URL for us to display to the merchant in our
MAI. The Merchant goes to the PayPal web site via the
MAI link and downloads a merchant specific PayPal contract,
which they sign and return to PayPal. Once PayPal have
checked the application and contract at their end they
notify us that the merchant can be set live with PayPal.

What does an existing merchant need to do to sign up
for PayPal?
The merchant should contact Merchant Amendments who
will switch on the PayPal application in the MAI Application
Status section, after that the process is as above.
All merchants applying for PayPal must go through the
full KYC checks.

Can the merchant use their existing PayPal account?
No, the routing of payment data for reporting is via
the MAI so a separate account is required.

Can a merchant have PayPal only?
No, the merchant cannot have a PayPal account unless
they have been accepted for a World Account first. The
merchant cannot be live with PayPal unless they are
live with us first.

What are the prices for PayPal?
We don’t charge the merchant for processing
PayPal so transactions will cost the same as if the
merchant applied to PayPal directly. PayPal may change
their prices but currently they are:
Monthly sales |
Price per transaction |
£0.00 GBP - £1,500.00 GBP |
3.4% + £0.20 GBP |
£1,500.01 GBP - £6,000.00 GBP |
2.9% + £0.20 GBP |
£6,000.01 GBP - £15,000.00 GBP |
2.4% + £0.20 GBP |
£15,000.01 GBP - £55,000.00 GBP |
1.9% + £0.20 GBP |
above £55,000.00 GBP* |
1.4% + £0.20 GBP |
Eligibility for merchant rates is determined based
on PayPal sales volumes from the previous calendar month.

Do refunds and cancellations work?
Yes, the functionality is the same as for card payments.
The success of a refund depends on there being sufficient
funds in the merchant’s account to be able to
send funds back to PayPal and a message to this effect
is displayed to the merchant on the MAI when they execute
a PayPal refund.

Does AVS / CVC work with PayPal?
PayPal supports 2 checks which use AVS and CVC results
slightly differently from card payments. When a PayPal
payment is processed, PayPal return a result indicating
whether the PayPal account holder’s status is
‘confirmed’ or ‘unconfirmed. Confirmed
status means that PayPal have carried out additional
identity checks on the merchant. The status check is
mapped to the CVC check with a confirmed status providing
a match response and unconfirmed providing a mismatch
response.
PayPal provide an address check on the delivery address
if one is supplied. If the supplied delivery address
matches the address of the PayPal account holder, PayPal
return a match and this is mapped to an AVS response
of ‘matched’. If no delivery address is
supplied or if the PayPal check does not match, this
is mapped to an AVS response of ‘not matched’.#

Are there any Risk Management Module checks for PayPal?
The standard checks are used but the AVS check is
not performed if a delivery address is not supplied
i.e. supplied using the delvAddress, delvPostcode parameters
etc. This is because PayPal only perform AVS checks
on the delivery address.]

Does the merchant need to do any other work at their
end?
If the merchant already has PayPal setup on a shopping
cart they will need to switch that functionality off
so that all payments are routed via the World Account
integration.

Does the merchant need to display the PayPal payment
logo on their web site?
Yes.

Where does the merchant run reports on PayPal transactions?
In the MAI, the merchant doesn’t have a login
to PayPal as they would with a normal PayPal account.

Can PayPal transactions be charged back?
Yes. PayPal sends a comprehensive Dispute Report that
will be represented in the World Accounts Dispute Management
console for further handling by the merchant.
The allowed reaction time for merchants is 7 days which
is shorter than usual for credit card transactions.
PayPal charges (the equivalent of) USD 10 for each
charge back.

How will PayPal funds be settled to me?
PayPal will settle to your World Account, who will
settle to your bank account. PayPal settles ‘net’,
after having deducted the PayPal fee from the transaction
amount. Settlement to your World Account will take between
3 and 6 days after capture.
